Identifying team strengths and development areas using Images of Organisations

Some sample questions to identify team strengths and development areas are shown below

  • Choose two cards from the deck.
Choose Card 1: this should represent your team or organisational working at its best.
Choose Card 2: this should represent your team when things begin to go wrong.

Review the cards chosen by each member
  • Ask the team members to then consider the following questions and report back their responses.
    • What does the selection of cards tell us about the strengths of the team?
    • When working successfully, what is the team like?
    • In this situation, what are the behaviours that are being adopted by individuals?
    • When people ‘play to their strengths’, how does the team feel?
    • What does the selection of cards tell us about the potential failings of the team?
    • When working under pressure or ineffectively, what is the team like?
    • In this situation, what are the behaviours that are being adopted by individuals?
    • Under these circumstances, what is needed to raise team morale and effectiveness?

This opens a discussion into how the team can work towards more of the positive behaviours and fewer of the negative ones.
